Hard to argue with the simplicity of the delivery. The little touches on the “ooo, ooo, oooo” and background vocalists make it fantastic. Will we see more “lyric videos” as a way to put a song out ahead of leakers and leechers? It’s doubtful as many songs will get the benefit of the potty mouth and Atari references. Pity.

You just can’t go wrong with King Missile in the morning.
We all know he has it in him - it’ll just take time for it to blossom into a Bukowski like stream of rage. (Ok, maybe more Waits-like.)
Another Friday, another day of work messing around with Photoshop. Here’s Bieber: man of letters.
Most of my early memories of Boston are these huge slabs of concrete, rising up to taunt the gods themselves with their mile-wide expanses of porous disdain. Help make sure it’s chronicled so others may learn of the foolish things we did in our cultural infancy.
30 days of music, Day 9. A song I can dance to. “Yakuza” Pilfers
The Pilfers were a short-lived third wave ska band that rolled through Austin in ‘98 or ‘99 and blew the roof of Emo’s in a way I’ve never seen done again. No one at the club had heard of them when they took the stage but within minutes Coolie Ranx was in the crowd and the entire place was jumping around in a frenzy. You can get a feel for it in this clip from ‘99 - they were TIGHT.
30 Days of music, Day 8. A song that you know all the words to “You Dirty Rat” by Scruffy The Cat.
I’m going to have to keep it short when I write about Scruffy the Cat because there are few bands I love so much. They were in the sweet spot of local faves, good guys and wrote catchy tracks. Their EP “Boom, Boom, Boom, Bingo!” is a delicious slice of vinyl and worth adding to any collection. (Or hunting down a rip online from a reputable source.)
Oh yes, there were too many perfect reasons to know the lyrics - I think I put this on at least three great breakup mixes from over the years. It’s always good to have a post-relationship soundtrack that doesn’t include too much maudlin stuff. There were many nights of a good belt of “You never wriiiiiite, you never caaaaaalllll….”

The Science Of Selling Yourself Short
Less Than Jake
30 Days of Music. Day 7, A song that reminds you of a certain event. “The Science of Selling Yourself Short” by Less Than Jake.
This was part of a mix I made for Caro before we got married. It was the soundtrack to a great summer. This song particularly reminds me of driving from Vancouver up to Whistler to see the mountain in the off-season and enjoy some fresh air. Funny how it’s not even my favorite LTJ song.
