Swearists

I had a chance to finally watch In The Loop last night and I cannot say enough great things about this movie. The story is hilarious, the characters are well done, the pacing is solid and the dialog is so good I may watch it again today just to catch the lines again.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention how the movie is also a string of expletives wrapped around some scenery. Not swearing for the sake of bad words, it’s swearing as an art form. There are scenes dedicated just to characters trying to push all the energy of a monkey knife fight into a few, terse sentences. You can get the beginning of the idea at the IMDB quotes page but you need the moment of delivery to give it power.

EDIT: A small discussion on Metafilter about the screenplay.

Why should everything be the same? Why should three or four piano makers, however splendid, especially the Steinways that inhabit the majority of concert halls, dominate the scene? It’s like the beer…
